In Pursuit of a His Immeasurable Blessing…

In the Form of an Apartment

May 25th, 2010

Hello to all our friends out in the world wide web!  *waves*

Nathan and I have a lot going on these days, but the main reason I am writing this post is to let you all know that we are looking at possibly moving to a new apartment when are lease is up in August (if not before then).  We have been very happy here at Clifton Colony Apartments but for various reasons we are looking at all our options.  As our family and friends we ask that you please pray and believe with us to find the apartment we are looking for.

Here is what we are looking for in an apartment:

  • 2 bedrooms and more space
  • control over both our heating and cooling (Central Air would be awesome!)
  • located no more than a mile but hopefully less than a half mile away from the College of Applied Science (where Nathan attends class)
  • a washer and dryer
  • a kitchen equipped with a stove, fridge, and dishwasher
  • high speed internet (fiber optic would be amazing!)
  • off of MLK Drive (in a quieter neighborhood)
  • a flexible lease (because we would like to be able to move out of Cincinnati when he graduates next spring)
  • off street parking is a must, but a garage would be great!
  • cannot be more than $500-750 a month
  • living on the ground floor is also something we would like to keep enjoying

We are excited to see God work with us and through us to meet our need and bless us exceedingly abundantly above whatever we ask or think.

We appreciate any and all of your love and support, and we are looking forward to testifying to our God’s great goodness and love toward us.

Keep your eyes open or your web browser refreshed for a new post Nathan should be writing soonish about his new job.

How To Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie – You might also be interested in comparing a newer version with an older 1936 or 1937 edition just to see what’s now taboo that wasn’t back then.

Uraaugh!

And other noises heard during dish washing

February 20th, 2010

Erin and I were washing dishes the other day, and by that I mean taking the clean ones out of the dishwasher then putting the dirty ones in. And from behind me I hear,

“Uraaaaugh!”

To which I respond

“No thanks, I’m full.”

I start to reach for more glasses and catch a glimpse of Erin.  Her hands are full of dishes and she is standing some what behind me.  With a slightly perturbed but half laughing look on her face, She clarifies her request saying,

“No, I meant I need you to move and open the cabinet.”

After what seemed like a short exasperated moment of silence Erin then pushes the word please from her lips, and I move my body aside and open the cabinet saying,

“Oh, my mistake, apparently ‘Uraaugh’ doesn’t mean in Erin what it means to me.”

[hilarity ensues]

Adventures in Furniture Finding

Our Great Search for a Table and Chairs

February 5th, 2010

Shortly after our honeymoon, during the time of settling in, what was once known as Nathan’s One Bedroom Bachelor Bivouac became known as Our Home.

From what I am told it is custom for a newly married woman to rearrange and reorganize the once bachelor pat turned home and so this custom began for Nathan and I. :)  Upon moving in some of my own things reorganizing was required.  Where Nathan had once resided alone he now had company.

Shortly after our tempurpedic bed arrived, Nathan worked out our budget and we began planning our second big purchase, which we both now agreed should be a dining room table and chairs.  In our budget Nathan and I allocated about $600 for our table and chairs.  Even with this number in mind, we were hoping and believing to spend less.

Having set aside a budget for the table and chairs, We stormed the furniture stores looking for our prize.  We were looking for the right design and price.  However after our time in the stores we were feeling a bit discouraged.  Having decided what we liked we now knew we were looking at spending $600 to $900 if we bought the table and chairs brand new.

With a desire to buy without having to save more money and not spend the entire $600 I went to craigslist.com.  There I found several posts of interest.  Not to mention the price we were looking at was cut down to $200 to $350.

The exchange of email began.  We were looking at several listings; one priced at $350, another at $300, and the final at $220.  The table and chairs listed at $350 sold before we could really do anything.  The listing for $300 was smaller than we would have liked.  Leaving only the last one listed for $220.  We made arrangements to see the table and possibly leave with it.  Nathan borrowed a larger vehicle so that we would be able to transport the table and chairs ourselves. He even posted our own coffee tables and end tables, which are far too large for our apartment, on craigslist.com to make room.

Then last night we paid $200 for a solid oak, Amish made table and four chairs!  While the chairs were not originally matched or made with the table they match very well and all of them are solid oak!  We are both very blessed to have our own table and chairs.  Praise God!  He is so good to his kids!

Now the part of the story I have yet to explain is Nathan and I had originally planned to buy a TV as our second big purchase, but after some prayer and late night conversations together talking it over we decided to buy a kitchen table and chairs instead.  We decided having a table around which to break bread together was more important than a TV.  I think both Nathan and I look at our finding this table for this price as a huge blessing because we put God first.  This table will end up blessing our marriage, our fellowship with family, and our fellowship with the rest of the body of Christ more than any TV.  There is no limit to what God can do for you when you put him first in ALL THINGS.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.     -Matthew 6:33

Too Good to Keep to Myself

Ahhh... the conversations we have

February 5th, 2010

One night as Nathan and I are laying in bed together he says to me, “You aren’t supposed to be paid to have sex.”

“Oh, but you are?” I reply coyly.

“No,” he says knowingly as the laughter begins.

“Good because I didn’t want to put a price on you.”

“And if you did?”

“15 cents,” with a boisterous laugh.

Without missing a beat he exclaims in pretended shock, “And worth every penny?”

“Yeah.  That gives  the phrase “nickel and diming someone” a whole new meaning.”

Being married is the best ever.

Wedding Registry

December 16th, 2009

In addition to our small private ceremony, we will be hosting a larger shindig this summer (or perhaps two).  If you would be blessed to purchase a gift that we’ll be sure to use, we have a wedding registry set up at Amazon which also includes items from other websites:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wedding/29BUJLBB8SSJ7

Also worth noting, we’d be completely blessed if several people wanted to go in together for one of the bigger gifts on the list. Cash gifts are also cheerfully accepted.

Thanks & God bless!
